How it all began – Part 2: Scrubbing buckets

After many months of scrubbing buckets, sweeping floors, making many cups of tea and coffee, I became the star trainee at ‘Sheila Morris’ in Guildford, where I made a bouquet for Princess Ann, one of my most exciting projects. Soon to leave to open a shop with my Mum and Dad in Petworth West Sussex, where Spriggs Florist began and is still going strong with my brother Mathew and sister Samantha. I still visit regularly and admire the beautiful shop, sometimes, a little envious until I come back to the quiet tranquillity of my workshop.

How I like to start my day

How it all began – Part 1: From the Duke of Edinburgh Award

Whilst at school I embarked on, with great enthusiasm, The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme until I reached the section, "achievement" under the heading of "design for living", flower arranging!! How dull I thought, but no, I was smitten not only could I do it but I actually loved it.

With great gusto I entered our local village 'fĂȘte and produce' show an arrangement incorporating fruit and flowers, if only I could find the photos. After the judges had been round deliberating over the entrants I awaited with baited breath to see how I had faired and, to my great excitement, I had won!!!

Well, this ultimately set me towards a career in floristry.

Coming soon part 2 of my journey!
